First, Homely faced a challenge with resizing images stored on S3 for legacy and cost reasons, as S3 lacked resizing capabilities. After an extensive benchmarking process, they chose Cloudflare for its superior performance. They developed a Cloudflare Worker to fetch images from S3 and resize them efficiently for web, iOS, and Android clients, ensuring seamless and scalable image delivery. Second, to address the issue of old URLs from a previous image provider still being indexed by search engines, the customer implemented a Worker to handle 301 redirects. This solution helps preserve their SEO value by seamlessly redirecting old URLs to new ones, maintaining their search engine rankings and user access without disruption. Lastly, the development team needed a dynamic solution to serve the correct image versions from S3. They created a Worker that intelligently looks up and delivers the appropriate image versions, ensuring accurate and up-to-date content delivery.
